Complexity of ergonomics

Ergonomics is a multi-layered concept that takes into account various factors such as posture, freedom of movement, spinal support and individual needs. This complexity can only be summarised in a key figure such as the Ergo-Score ® under certain conditions.

Subjectivity of perception

Seating comfort and therefore the ergonomic fit of an office chair are perceived differently by each person. What is perceived as ideal for one person may be uncomfortable for another. Therefore, always remember that the Ergo-Score ® refers objectively to the ergonomic properties, functions and mechanics of an office chair.

Lack of standardised measurement criteria

In contrast to the Nutri-Score for food, there are no generally recognised and standardised measurement criteria for assessing the quality of office chairs in general. For this reason, hjh OFFICE has developed a scale from which the Ergo-Score ® is calculated.

Depending on the characteristics of the respective office chair, an individual score is calculated, which then results in the Ergo-Score ®. Thanks to the sophisticated scale and the individual assessment of each office chair by our ergonomics experts, you can use the Ergo-Score ® as a guide.

How to interpret the Ergo-Score ® correctly:

The Ergo-Score ® is a valuable tool for assessing the ergonomic quality of office chairs and other workplace products. It enables an objective comparison of different products and serves as a guide when making a selection. However, make sure that the Ergo-Score ® is not the only criterion for your decision and always take your individual needs into account.

Why do we need extended labelling for office chairs?

The Ergo-Score ® is a rating system that assesses the ergonomic properties of office chairs and other workplace products. It serves as a guide to help you choose an ergonomically sound product. The Ergo-Score ® is based on measurable criteria such as adjustability, support for the lumbar spine and the built-in mechanism. These criteria are assessed in a multi-stage process and combined to form an overall score. The Ergo-Score ® is usually presented as a letter, with better letters indicating higher ergonomic quality. It is important to note that the Ergo-Score ® should not be the only criterion. Your personal feelings, the nature of your work and the duration of use should also be taken into account. Pay attention to which system is used and only compare products with the same system. A high Ergo-Score ® is no guarantee that the chair is suitable for you personally. It is best to try out the chair yourself to ensure that it meets your needs.
