Neues Jahr, neues Glück: So werden die Neujahrsvorsätze wahr! - buerostuhl24

Laura Hofstetter |

Year after year, we kick off January with our New Year’s resolutions and try to achieve the goals we’ve set ourselves as quickly as possible. Whether it’s a better work-life balance, losing weight or giving up bad habits. The list of New Year’s resolutions is long.

What are the most popular New Year’s resolutions?

Exercise more

Regular physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Exercise not only contributes to physical fitness, but can also boost well-being and reduce stress. Whether it’s endurance sports, strength training or simply regular walks, every form of movement is valuable.

Live and eat more healthily

A balanced diet is the foundation of a healthy life and one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions. By consciously consuming fresh foods, fruit and vegetables, the body is supplied with important nutrients. A change in diet can help reduce the risk of various illnesses and increase overall well-being.

Spend more time with friends and family:

Social connections play an important role in human well-being. Spending time with friends and family can reduce stress and strengthen the sense of belonging . Shared activities can deepen relationships and create positive memories. The topic of work-life balance is becoming increasingly important. Hardly surprising when you consider that we spend a large part of our time at work. That said, this does not necessarily mean giving both areas a 50/50 weighting. Everyone experiences work-life balance individually and differently. What is clear, however, is that job satisfaction has a significant impact on life satisfaction and work-life balance. This is why demand for a four-day week, remote work and flexible working hours is rising every year.

Quit smoking:

Smoking is one of the most common causes of preventable deaths, so it’s no wonder this is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions. Quitting smoking is an important step towards improving your health and can significantly reduce the risk of numerous illnesses such as lung cancer and cardiovascular disease. Did you know that today sitting is often referred to as the new smoking ? Back pain has been considered for several years now the new widespread health issue  pure and simple. A large proportion of jobs are now done sitting down, and the average time we spend seated each day increases year after year. We also spend a lot of our leisure time sitting, whether it’s an evening gaming session or relaxing on the sofa watching a series. At the same time,  too much sitting is having an increasingly negative effect  on our physical and mental health. We often adopt unhealthy postures or do not have  ergonomic office furniture. This increasingly leads to back pain or tension, postural problems, headaches, and even poorer eyesight can be a consequence. But how can we prevent this? First and foremost, of course, through  sufficient exercise. An  ergonomic office chair  is also essential for correct and healthy posture while you work. If you also have a  height-adjustable desk,  you can switch between standing and sitting.

Save money:

By saving with purpose, you can gain  financial security  and achieve long-term goals. Whether you want to save for a holiday, make a larger purchase or plan for retirement, every saving is a step in the right direction.

Less stress at work:

Chronic stress  in the workplace can lead to  health problems . It is important to develop strategies for managing stress and to find a healthy work-life balance. Relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga can help reduce stress levels. Ergonomic office furniture  plays a  decisive role  in reducing stress at work. Thanks to  optimal adaptation  to the human body, it can  minimise physical discomfort  and thus contribute to a  pleasant working environment . Of course, office furniture cannot prevent stress, but it does help to  reduce perceived stress.

More movement in everyday life:

Exercise does not always have to involve strenuous workouts. Even  small changes in everyday life, such as taking the stairs instead of the lift or going for a walk during your lunch break, can help you become more active. To  build more movement into your working day  in the office,  height-adjustable desks  are indispensable. They allow you to keep changing your working posture.  Special office chairs that  encourage dynamic sitting, or exercise balls, also create more   Movement in the workplace.

Most people find it easy to get started. Unfortunately, those good intentions usually fade after a few weeks - but why is that?

Why do New Year's resolutions fail?

The main problem with New Year's resolutions is that we tend to take on too much. But that often means we end up achieving nothing at all. Most of the time, we want to see the results of our New Year's resolutions straight away. The issue, however, is that we often set New Year's resolutions that are more of a process , such as losing weight. It is not possible to lose a lot of weight in a healthy way from one week to the next. In addition, losing weight too quickly is often linked to a yo-yo effect, which then demotivates those affected. To prevent that from happening and to help you achieve your New Year's resolutions, there are all kinds of tips and methods online that can help.

How can I achieve my New Year's resolutions?

There are various approaches to achieving goals. One way to turn your New Year's resolutions into reality is to follow the SMART concept for achieving goals. This means that your goal should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. If we take the more general goal of integrating more movement into everyday life, one goal could be:

"To get more movement into my working day, I will (to start with) work standing up every day at 11:00 for half an hour for one month."

In this way, we have defined a clear goal and a very specific action to help integrate more movement into everyday life in the long term. From a purely behavioural psychology perspective, it is easier to change behaviours and create new routines. This makes it easier for us to step out of our comfort zone and overcome our inner resistance.

However, there is no guarantee that you will be able to put your New Year's resolutions into practice this way. Routines do help, but ultimately it is your own determination that decides whether a goal is actually achieved.

So: out with good intentions, in with new habits!

Conclusion: Why make resolutions for the new year?

Many people naturally wonder why New Year's resolutions are made at all if they are not going to be kept afterwards anyway. New Year's resolutions are a  tradition that is deeply rooted in our culture. For many people, the turn of the year is seen as a  fresh start — an opportunity to take stock and set new goals. New Year's resolutions inspire hope and motivate us to change something in our lives. They can also bring people together, as many share similar resolutions. This allows them to support one another. Similar New Year's resolutions also create a sense of community.  Whatever New Year's resolutions you want to put into practice, set yourself SMART goals and don't forget: change is good, but it is also a process.

This is how to make sure your New Year's resolutions really come true!
