The first office setup for start-ups
The time has finally come. The new business is up and running and office space has been rented. Now comes one of the toughest tasks for most start-up founders – the office setup.
The budget for office furniture is usually very tight. That is why start-ups should make sure that their new office setup is affordable, functional and presentable. It should create a positive, professional impression on potential customers. Good quality office furniture is also an investment in the future.
From a health perspective, the aim should be to design workstations in a way that minimises health strain as much as possible while creating a pleasant working atmosphere. Feeling comfortable at work now plays a major role for founders and their employees.
Below, we would like to give you a few tips for your initial office setup.
The first step is to determine your requirements.
WHICH OFFICE FURNITURE DO YOU REALLY NEED?
-
Cupboards, shelving or sideboards (storage space)
-
Adjustable, ergonomic office chairs
-
Lighting (ceiling lights, desk lamps)
As a founder in particular, you should be careful not to buy too cheaply, because:
If you buy cheap, you usually buy twice! The quality of the furnishings is an important issue, because first impressions count. This is especially true for businesses with customer traffic. System furniture can save you a lot of time and money here without compromising on quality. At hjh OFFICE PRO all furniture is usually available for delivery within a short time, and adding to or extending it later is no problem either.
Work desk
A work desk should be at least 160 x 80 cm in size and have a height of at least 72 cm. A pedestal drawer unit with stationery tray and drawers would be a practical and useful addition. For health reasons, electrically height-adjustable desks becoming increasingly popular, as they allow you to alternate between standing and sitting while working. This boosts endurance and helps prevent back pain. The finish of the desk tops should not be chosen too light or too dark, as this can be very tiring on the eyes.

Filing
Sufficient storage space for filing folders and documents is just as important. Shelving units, lockable cabinets, sideboards and pedestals provide plenty of room for this. Founders should make sure that the furnishings can keep pace with the growth of the start-up. In this respect, cabinet systems that can still be extended and supplemented even after years are, of course, a real advantage.
Lighting
When it comes to lighting, make sure to use a glare-free light source. Ceiling lights are usually the most practical solution here. An additional desk lamp would of course be ideal for direct illumination of the work surface. With daylight, you should ensure that the desk is positioned at as close to a right angle to the window as possible to avoid direct sunlight hitting the screen. If there is not enough natural daylight available, natural-looking artificial light can help compensate. Bright rooms keep you alert and help maintain concentration for longer.
Choosing the right office chair
Quality is especially important when choosing the right office chair. The new office chair should be ergonomic, i.e. individually adjustable to suit the respective user. As well as height adjustment, the office chair should also feature a high-quality mechanism (e.g. synchronous mechanism). In addition, the backrest should have an adjustable lumbar support, ideally also height-adjustable, so that the back is supported in the upper pelvic area. Armrests would be beneficial, but should likewise be height-adjustable. Smooth-running castors matched to the respective floor covering (carpet or hard floor) complete the ideal office chair.
A FEW FINAL TIPS: |
|---|
| Room height, lighting, ventilation and planting have a direct impact on employees' well-being and ability to concentrate. High-ceilinged rooms with natural daylight encourage creativity and motivation, while fresh air lifts the mood, improves blood flow to the brain and therefore boosts performance. Plants also help create a better office environment. They clean the air and promote well-being. An attractive workplace therefore leads to happy, productive employees – and this is certainly a worthwhile investment in the future of the new company. |
