Desks differ not only in shape and colour, but also in size, material and design. That doesn’t always make the choice easy! Since most of us spend many hours there, it’s important to choose carefully.
Below, we’ll guide you in your search for the right desk for your home office.
Checklist for buying your desk
What you should keep in mind when choosing:
-
Work out the right position
-
Find the right size, with enough room to move around and under the desk.
-
Choose the right width and length
-
The height should suit you; ideally, the desk should be height-adjustable
-
The ideal shape: recommended for ergonomic working - straight edges
-
Choose a colour and material that suit the room.
-
Choose the material that matches your needs and requirements. In any case, the desk should be sturdy.
-
Choose the features you need (storage space? Height adjustment? Cable port?)
How to find the right desk position
There are a few things to keep in mind when finding the right position. Below, we’ve summarised the DO´S and DONT´S to help you find the best spot for your desk and then choose the right size.
DO´S:
-
It’s best to place the desk sideways at a 90° angle to the window. This way, you can look out of the window and enjoy optimal natural light without being dazzled or getting screen glare.
-
If possible, position the desk so that you can keep both the door and the room in view. This helps you stay aware of people entering and what’s going on in the room.
DON’TS:
-
Avoid placing the desk facing the window, as this can cause glare from the sun. Not only does this strain your eyes, but it can also make the screen harder to see.
-
Avoid placing the desk with your back to the window, as this can create distracting reflections and shadows on the screen.
