How do I clean a trash can properly?

If you clean your trash cans regularly, you can reliably avoid unpleasant smells. Dirt can quickly build up on the floor and walls, especially in containers for household waste. We have put together some tips for you on how to properly clean your waste bins:

  • There should always be a tear-proof and tight garbage bag inside the trash can. This prevents your bucket from coming into direct contact with the waste, making later cleaning much easier.
  • For regular basic cleaning of the waste collector, use some warm water and a few squirts of dishwashing detergent. Disinfectant cleaners or a little vinegar are also suitable for particularly stubborn residues.
  • You can remove heavy dirt by filling the garbage container with hot water and letting it soak in for up to 30 minutes. If necessary, you can also scrub the trash can with a brush.
  • After cleaning, allow the waste bin to dry thoroughly to prevent mold from forming.

Separate and dispose of rubbish properly

To ensure clean and safe disposal, you should separate the waste properly. Containers made of different materials with different devices make it easier for you to separate waste into residual waste, organic waste, paper or plastic. With a waste separation system, you not only keep your waste tidy, you also make an important contribution to sustainability. We have put together a brief overview for you to help you separate waste correctly:

  • The yellow bin or bag includes plastics, composites (such as Tetra Pak) and metals.
  • Kitchen waste such as leftover food, tea bags and frying oil are disposed of in the organic waste bin. Garden waste such as potting soil or leaves must also go into the green or brown bin. Dirty paper, wood chips or ash, for example, also belong in the organic waste bin.
  • Cardboard and paper such as newspapers, catalogs, writing paper or books go into waste paper. However, coated papers such as photos, receipts, bank statements or baking paper do not belong in the waste paper. This is disposed of in the residual waste.
  • The so-called container glass is thrown into the waste glass container. This includes bottles, glasses and jars in the colors green, brown and white. The lids, however, must be removed first. These are disposed of in the yellow bin.
