Office Chairs
Office Chairs
Work stools are often used by people whose jobs in warehouses, laboratories, or doctor's offices frequently require them to switch between sitting and standing.
Armrest
Armrest
Armrests support the forearms, thus helping with ergonomic seating. They can be adjusted in up to four ways: height, width, length, and angle (radial).
breathable
breathable
The term "breathable" is a colloquial expression for water vapor permeability. Breathable material allows water vapor to escape from the inside to the outside.
abrasion-resistant
abrasion-resistant
"Abrasion-resistant" refers to all materials whose surface shows little wear despite stress.
lockable
lockable
If, for example, a backrest can be locked, it can be blocked or fixed using a lever.
b
Load
Load
The maximum load capacity of an office chair plays an important role, as it ensures safety and stability. As a rule, office chairs are designed for a maximum body weight of 100 to 120 kilograms. Only with the XXL version is the maximum load capacity sometimes up to 210 kilograms.

Swivel armchair
Swivel armchair
Due to the required mobility in the office, office chairs are usually swivel chairs. These can be easily rotated in any direction and allow the user to reach cabinets or shelves standing to the side. Swivel chairs also support the user's motor skills.
DIN EN 1335
DIN EN 1335
DIN-EN 1335 is a standard that specifies the requirements office chairs must meet. This includes, among other things, safety, strength, and durability.
E
Ergonomics
Ergonomics
The science of ergonomics deals with the laws of human and automated work. The goal of ergonomics is to design working conditions and processes in such a way that, on the one hand, optimal work results are achieved, but on the other hand, the people working in these processes do not tire or even suffer harm. One of the main topics of ergonomics is therefore the usability of tools and, by extension, office chairs.
F
Cantilever chair
Cantilever chair
A cantilever chair is a chair without back legs, whose seat flexes resiliently under a person's weight and sinks slightly downwards.
Footrest
Footrest
According to most manufacturers, a footrest is not always necessary from an ergonomic point of view, but it can provide relief and additional comfort. Footrests are usually only found on office chairs without castors. Attaching them to a swivel chair is technically rather difficult to implement.
G
Gaming chair
Gaming chair
A gaming chair is a standard office chair tailored to the needs of gamers. Originally, these chairs were developed for players in the field of car racing to give gamers the feeling of sitting in a sports car. The design of gaming chairs is therefore sporty, and they are often known as racing chairs. They are usually comfortable and equipped with many adjustment options for long gaming sessions.
Gas spring
Gas spring
A gas spring is a pneumatic spring that uses high-pressure gas to provide spring force. The advantages of a gas spring over a coil spring are its force, which is almost independent of the travel, and its small footprint.
H
Hard Floor Casters
Hard Floor Casters
For use on hard floor coverings (such as tiles or parquet), special chair castors should be fitted to the office chair.
Lifting column
Lifting column
Lifting columns are used in electrically height-adjustable desks and lift the desk top.
height-adjustable
height-adjustable
Height adjustment can be either manual or electric. Office chairs are usually height-adjusted manually. Desks, on the other hand, can be height-adjustable either manually or electrically.
Suspension file
Suspension file
A suspended filing system, also known as a hanging file, is a storage option in which many documents can be kept. Thus, a suspended filing system proves to be a simple and space-saving filing option.
Suspension filing
Suspension filing
A suspended filing system is a hanging device in which many suspension files can be hung and stored. Suspended filing system extensions are available in many pedestal cabinets from buerostuhl24.
K
Cable duct
Cable duct
With the help of a cable duct, you can bring order to your office and avoid cable clutter on your desk. To store the cables as invisibly as possible, the cable ducts can run either horizontally (along the underside of the back of the tabletop) or vertically (hidden in or attached to the frame).
child-friendly
child-friendly
Furniture described as "child-friendly" is specifically adapted to children's height and needs.
Knee-tilt mechanism
Knee-tilt mechanism
With knee-tilt mechanisms, the chair can be locked at various angles, similar to conventional tilt mechanisms. The focus here is on an "open" mechanism in the front area, so that the buttocks tilt slightly further down. With simple knee-tilt mechanisms, the opening angle can only be opened or closed. Here too, adjustment is possible via the contact pressure.
Collision protection
Collision protection
The soft stop with collision protection in electrically height-adjustable desks prevents, among other things, cables from being overstretched or even pulling work materials off the desk surface as a result.
Headrest
Headrest
An important component of the office chair is the headrest or head section. This should adapt to the natural shape of the neck and be individually adjustable. If the headrest is variable, it can be ideally adjusted to the user's height. This way, smaller and taller people can use the office swivel chair equally.
Artificial leather
Artificial leather
As the name suggests, artificial leather is not real leather. It is an artificially produced fabric that looks like leather due to an embossing (leather imitation). It is easy to care for and can be easily cleaned by wiping. It is also cheaper to produce.
L
Lumbar support
Lumbar support
Medical professionals refer to the forward curvature of the human spine as lordosis. When used correctly, a lumbar support promotes healthy sitting by specifically supporting the lumbar region. When properly adjusted, the support should be located in the area of the iliac crest, approximately at waist level. Only in this area does the body offer a sufficiently large and stable surface to optimally support you when leaning back.
Leather
Leather
Leather is a natural material often used as upholstery for office chairs. Due to its high resistance and tear strength, leather is a very durable material and is also more environmentally friendly to produce than cheaper leather alternatives.
M
Melamine coating
Melamine coating
Melamine is a colorless substance that is processed into aminoplast synthetic resin, among other things. This substance is used for bonding decorative papers to carrier boards (e.g., MDF boards). Surfaces treated with melamine are particularly scratch-resistant and durable.
Memory function
Memory function
With office furniture that has a memory function, specific seating or height settings are saved and can be easily recalled.
Mesh
Mesh
Mesh fabric is an air-permeable textile mesh that is increasingly used for office chair upholstery in addition to large-format advertising prints.
Scoop seat
Scoop seat
An office chair with a deep and wide seat ensures comfortable seating even after extended periods.
N
Headrest
Headrest
Headrests should be adjusted to the height of the neck, so they can help relieve strain on the neck. When buying an office chair, you should look for a height-adjustable support.
Inclination adjustment
Inclination adjustment
This function does not respond to leaning back. It is about individually adjusting the seat tilt angle to the user's physique. A correctly set tilt angle can prevent poor posture during long sitting activities.
Mesh fabric
Mesh fabric
Chairs with a mesh cover usually appear somewhat tauter than upholstered fabric-covered chairs. In addition, they allow for better air circulation and thus feel fresher than fabric covers.
Nylon
Nylon
Nylon is a highly tear-resistant synthetic fiber from the family of synthetic polymers, predominantly used for textile manufacturing.
O
Folder Height (FH)
Folder Height (FH)
Many filing cabinets and sideboards are divided by file heights (FH), which define the distance between two shelves. One file height is 360 mm and corresponds to the height of a DIN A4 standard folder. The file height of a filing cabinet indicates how many folders a cabinet can accommodate one above the other.
P
Permanent contact mechanics
Permanent contact mechanics
The permanent contact mechanism offers a movable backrest without the seat changing its position. This allows the user to switch between an upright and a reclined sitting posture depending on the activity. This improves the supply of nutrients to the intervertebral discs. The backrest follows the movements of the body and supports it in moving from the reclined position back to the upright position.
Upholstery
Upholstery
The upholstery of an office chair is responsible for seating comfort and is especially important in daily office life. You can choose between the thick padding of an executive chair or an office chair with a mesh back. The seat of the chair should spring slightly when you sit down to minimize impact on the spine.
Synchronous point-to-point mechanics
Synchronous point-to-point mechanics
As with permanent contact mechanisms, the backrest adjusts to the person. The backrest's counter-pressure can be continuously adjusted to various positions using a handwheel or rotary knob. To ensure an ergonomically correct angle between the seat and backrest, the seat simultaneously tilts a few degrees. This mechanism is usually used in high-quality office chairs.
Q
Roller shutter
Roller shutter
A lateral tambour door runs from left to right or vice versa - depending on where it latches - and is often found on office furniture such as filing cabinets and sideboards. Composed of individual, interconnected slats, the tambour door runs in guide rails and is rolled up on one side when opened. The advantage of lateral tambour doors is space saving, as no hinged doors project into the room.
R
Roles
Roles
Office chairs are usually delivered with carpet castors. Since these are harder, they can scratch floors such as parquet or laminate. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase hard floor castors for these types of floors.
Basically, hard floor and carpet castors are divided into a core and a tread. The core is identical for both castor models. Only the tread differs fundamentally. Hard floor castors have a soft tread to avoid scratching laminate, tiles or parquet, for example. The carpet castor is much harder and is therefore only suitable for soft floors such as carpets or fitted carpets.
Pedestal (mobile)
Pedestal (mobile)
A mobile pedestal is an office furniture unit that stands under or next to a desk, is movable thanks to its castors, and serves to store office supplies. Many mobile pedestal models feature a stationery drawer, storage drawers, or a filing drawer. The drawers of branded mobile pedestals usually have a drawer stop and are lockable.
Dowel pin diameter
Dowel pin diameter
If office chair casters wear out after a certain period of time, you can easily find a suitable replacement by checking the stem diameter of the caster. The stem is the small rod that attaches the caster to the chair base.
Roller shutter cabinet
Roller shutter cabinet
A tambour door cabinet is a storage unit with tambour doors (horizontal or vertical tambour doors) as a front. Tambour door cabinets are available as filing cabinets and as sideboards in various sizes.
Backrest
Backrest
The backrest is an important component of the office chair. It should adapt to the natural shape of the spine and be individually adjustable. If the backrest is variable, it can be ideally adjusted to the user's height. This way, both shorter and taller people can use the office swivel chair equally well.
S
Noise barrier
Noise barrier
Particularly in open-plan offices and call centers, soundproof walls are often used. These partitions are made of a special material that absorbs sound and noise, which ensures better room acoustics.
Rubbing cycles
Rubbing cycles
They are a unit like meter or kilogram, they describe the result of the "Martindale Test", which was named after its inventor. The higher the number of rubs, the more resistant the fabric is to abrasion and wear.
Snap closure
Snap closure
Snap fasteners allow children's desks to be adjusted safely and easily. This way, the children's desk grows with the child over many years.
Duration of stay
Duration of stay
Office chairs are divided into two classes: those with a recommended sitting duration of approx. 4 hours a day for private use or home office use, and approx. 8 hours a day for professional offices and daily office life.
Seat
Seat
The seat should be height-adjustable. Most desk chair models have a seat width between 40 and 48 centimeters. XXL office chairs have a slightly wider seat.
seat-controlled/load-dependent braked
seat-controlled/load-dependent braked
This means the chair only rolls when under load; when unloaded, the castors brake to prevent unintentional rolling away.
Seat height adjustment
Seat height adjustment
The chair height can be adjusted to the user's individual height.
Seat tilt function
Seat tilt function
The seat tilt function allows the office chair's seat to be angled slightly forward. The slightly forward-sloping seat surface counteracts the backward tilting of the pelvis and, due to the larger angle between the upper body and thighs, relieves the entire organism.
Seat depth adjustment
Seat depth adjustment
This function affects not only seating comfort but also blood circulation to the lower limbs. Everyone has legs of different lengths – for this reason, the seat depth of a good office chair should be individually adjustable. It is important that the user's kneecaps do not come into contact with the front edge of the seat. With the correct seat depth, the front edge lifts when the user leans back in the chair, and the feet maintain contact with the floor.
Standing aid
Standing aid
Standing aids offer comfortable support for alternating between standing and sitting. Our standing stools and chairs can significantly relieve strain on our musculoskeletal system.
Fabric
Fabric
Chairs with fabric upholstery are always padded and thus offer a soft seating experience. Since the padding retains heat on all sides, fabric covers provide a warmer seating sensation.
Synchronous mechanism
Synchronous mechanism
The synchro-mechanism is often also referred to as a point synchro-mechanism. With the synchro-mechanism, the tilt of the backrest is connected to the tilt of the seat. When leaning back, the tilt of the seat changes simultaneously, moving slightly backwards. The ratio of the tilt change from seat to backrest is 1:3. This ensures that the chosen support point for the pelvis is maintained in every position. This promotes ergonomic sitting.
Another important advantage is the lack of a "shirt-pulling effect": with other mechanisms, the changing seat angle can cause outer clothing to slip slightly. With the synchro-mechanism, everything stays in place.
T
Carpet roll
Carpet roll
Carpet castors are made of a uniform hard plastic. They are larger than hard floor castors so that they do not easily sink into the carpet.
U
Utensil pull-out
Utensil pull-out
It is an insert for a drawer, with pre-made compartments for pens and other office supplies.
W
Synchron tilt mechanism
Synchron tilt mechanism
With the rocking mechanism, the backrest can be moved backward, but the seat remains at the same angle. Usually, the position can be locked with a lever. The rocking mechanism is the simplest mechanism for tilting the backrest.
A special form is the so-called knee-tilt mechanism, also known as the knee-rocking mechanism. Here, the pivot point is in the front area of the seat, so that when leaning back, the rear part of the seat is lowered.
Z
Central locking
Central locking
Central locking is primarily used for rolling pedestals, stationary pedestals, and filing cabinets that have multiple drawers. As the name suggests, it locks all drawers centrally with one lock. Individual drawers of the pedestals do not need to be locked separately, which is why only one key is required.
